Szombathely Secures Its Fifth Hungarian Men's Basketball Championship

Falco-Vulcano Energia KC Szombathely clinched their fifth championship gold medal as they outscored Arconic-Alba Fehérvár by 16 points in the fifth match of the Men's Basketball NB I final, securing a 3-2 aggregate victory.

The reigning basketball champions began the final with a remarkable turnaround, erasing an 18-point deficit to triumph 82-70 in the opening game. Just three days later, they overcame a 22-point deficit to secure an 81-80 victory at home. The third match, played on Tuesday, also resulted in a home win for Szombathely at 84-78, while the fourth game followed a similar pattern, with Alba claiming a 72-69 victory.

In the championship's climactic encounter, the Arena Savaria witnessed a packed house, and both teams pushed themselves to the limit. The home team fiercely maintained their advantage, denying their rivals easy scoring opportunities, and clinched a well-deserved win.

Falco, who won the cup in April, celebrated their fourth consecutive championship win, following their previous triumphs in 2008, 2019, 2021, and 2022 (except for 2020 due to Covid-19). This victory marked their fifth consecutive NB I title.

For Falco, hailing from Vasi and Fejér County, this was their third appearance in the championship final, with Alba previously claiming victory in 1998/99 and 2016/17.
