Groundbreaking Innovation Introduced in Gynecology

A Groundbreaking Minimally Invasive Gynecological Procedure with Uterus Preservation

A remarkable innovation in gynecology has emerged, promising minimally invasive procedures without the need for anesthesia and preserving the uterus without scarring. Importantly, this pioneering approach does not diminish the prospects of future childbirth.

Premier Med Healthcare, Training, and Research Institute in Hungary is at the forefront of employing and instructing doctors and medical students in this cutting-edge technology, expected to soon revolutionize the domestic healthcare sector by supplanting conventional surgical methods.

In Hungary, approximately 13,000 hysterectomies are performed annually, with 25 percent arising from malignant tumors and 75 percent from benign tumors, primarily fibroids.

The innovative procedure holds particular significance in the treatment of fibroids, which afflict 20-50% of women of reproductive age. While many women remain asymptomatic, fibroids can cause severe discomfort and may influence fertility.

The new technique serves as a promising alternative in selected cases, sparing the uterus from removal and minimizing the procedure's impact on the body. It's worth noting that this treatment is most suitable for fibroids measuring up to five centimeters, as it doesn't entirely eliminate them but rather reduces their size, alleviating associated symptoms.

Fibroid treatment encompasses a range of options, including symptom-alleviating drugs and surgical or alternative procedures targeting the root cause. In cases where fibroids persist and symptoms persist, radiofrequency ablation can serve as a viable alternative to hysterectomy, according to Zoltán Harmat, Chief Radiologist at Premier Med. Radiology in this field has advanced significantly and has evolved into a distinct medical specialty.

Premier Med's investment of over HUF 100 million (EUR 258,536) in this development underscores the commitment to advancing healthcare. The rapid expansion of doctors skilled in innovative interventions is crucial for the wide adoption of this procedure in the national healthcare system, catering to patients both domestically and from neighboring regions.

Innovations in treatment procedures like this hold the potential to significantly reduce healthcare costs at the national economic level. Fewer hospitalization days, minimal postoperative care expenses, and reduced complications associated with open surgery all contribute to this cost-effectiveness, as emphasized by Zsófia Riesz, Director of Strategy and Communication at the research institute.
