Palermo Municipality Delegation from Italy Set to Visit Sekondi-Takoradi

Delegation from Palermo Municipality in Italy Set to Collaborate with Sekondi-Takoradi on Cultural Heritage and Urban Development

A joint mission, comprising representatives from the Palermo Municipality, Ghana Sicily Business Forum, and Cooperazione Internationale Sud (CISS), is scheduled to visit Sekondi-Takoradi. The mission aims to share experiences and enhance the capacity of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) officials and stakeholders in leveraging cultural heritage conservation and cultural tourism for successful urban development policies.
The visit, organized as part of the Takoradi Coastal Sanitation, Planning and Poverty Reduction (TCSPP) project, will include engagements with the management of Takoradi Technical University on hosting the Maritime and Nautical Training Centre. This collaboration involves Studio De Santis srl, an International Maritime Organization accredited training institute based in Palermo, Italy.
A workshop is planned to share good practices and co-create strategies for the development and marketing of artisanal arts and crafts in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. Additionally, the delegation will tour arts and crafts centers, exploring potential cooperation in the business field with the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The TCSPP, a three-year €3 million initiative funded by the EU, is implemented by STMA in collaboration with various partners, including the Palermo Municipality, CISS, Ghana Sicily Business Forum, and Kumasi Technical University. The project addresses challenges related to rapid urbanization, climate change, exclusion, unemployment, irregular migration, and preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
