EXCLUSIVE: Chanel Unveils Plans to Showcase Cruise Collection in Marseille this May

CHANEL SETS SAIL: Cruise Collection 2025 Showcased in Marseille on May 2

Chanel is heading back to the enchanting landscapes of the South of France for its upcoming cruise collection. Following last year's show in Los Angeles, the French fashion powerhouse has chosen Marseille as the backdrop for its cruise 2025 line, set to debut on May 2.

In an exclusive statement shared with WWD, Chanel expressed its intention to celebrate the vibrant energy and cultural richness of Marseille, deeming it one of the most dynamic places along the Mediterranean coast. Creative director Virginie Viard, known for her previous shows in Les Baux-de-Provence and Monte Carlo, sees the multicultural and historically connected Marseille as an exciting destination. While the French Riviera remains a natural choice, Marseille's edgier reputation and appeal to creatives and designers make it an intriguing stop for Chanel.

The statement highlights Chanel's enthusiasm for showcasing in a culturally open-minded city, acknowledging Marseille's reputation as a hub with historic ties to North Africa. This move aligns with the fashion house's commitment to diversity, appealing to a younger clientele.

The choice of Marseille over more traditionally glamorous locations like Cannes and Saint-Tropez suggests Chanel's embrace of unconventional settings. This decision follows the recent Métiers d’Art show in Manchester, hinting at Chanel's continued efforts to engage with a diverse and youthful audience.

Louis Vuitton is set to unveil its cruise show on May 23, while Dior has scheduled its presentation for June 3, with locations yet to be disclosed. As the cruise season unfolds, Marseille emerges as the next glamorous stage for Chanel's nautical-inspired collection.
