Indian Stars Shine: Manika Batra and G Sathiyan's Performances Highlight Day 1 of WTT Biella 2023

Indian Duo Advances to Quarterfinals, Sathiyan's Singles Journey Ends: WTT Feeder Biella 2023 Day 1 Recap

On Thursday, December 14, at the Biella Forum in Italy, the world No. 10 mixed doubles pair of Manika Batra and Gnanasekaran Sathiyan showcased their prowess by securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the WTT Feeder Biella 2023. They defeated the Croatian duo of Andrea Pavlovic and Ivor Ban in straight sets (11-3, 11-9, 12-10), demonstrating excellent service and efficient returns.

However, Sathiyan faced disappointment in the men's singles event, exiting in the round of 64 with a 1-3 loss (7-11, 9-11, 11-4, 8-11) against Niagol Stoyanov. Despite holding substantial leads in the second and fourth games, unforced errors proved costly for the Indian player.

In contrast, veteran Sharath Kamal showcased resilience, overcoming Tomas Polansky from the Czech Republic in a thrilling match (3-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8). Despite losing the first game, Sharath ensured control in the subsequent sets, securing victory.

Manika Batra received a bye in the women's singles round of 64 and will face France's Oceane Gusinel in the next round. In the quarterfinals of mixed doubles, Batra and Sathiyan are set to take on Jan Valenta and Zdena Blaskova from the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, Sharath Kamal is scheduled to play against local contender Antonino Amato in the round of 32.
