A fresh attack on medical personnel occurred at Foggia's Policlino Hospital late Sunday night into Monday, where three emergency room nurses were assaulted by a patient who kicked and punched them.
Carabinieri police quickly intervened, arresting the 18-year-old man suspected of the attack.
This incident follows another violent episode at the same hospital that was reported last Wednesday, involving a mob of around 50 people who stormed the facility after learning that a 23-year-old woman from Cerignola had died during surgery following a car accident weeks earlier. Approximately 20 individuals physically confronted surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare workers, resulting in severe injuries. One surgeon suffered multiple facial injuries, while a female doctor sustained a fractured hand.
These assaults are part of an alarming trend of violence against healthcare professionals in Italy, highlighting ongoing safety concerns for staff at this hospital.
