ATP Finals: Alexander Zverev Defeats Carlos Alcaraz to Advance in Turin

Zverev Triumphs Over Alcaraz to Secure ATP Finals Semifinal Spot, Pushing Spaniard to the Brink of Elimination

German Alexander Zverev secured his place in the ATP Finals semifinals with a 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 victory over Carlos Alcaraz on Friday, leaving the Spaniard's fate hanging by a thread.

Zverev, the world number two, clinched the first set after a tense 7-6 (7/5) tiebreaker, following over an hour of competitive play in northern Italy. He then dominated the second set, securing his third win in as many matches at the tournament.

Alcaraz, who claimed titles at Wimbledon and Roland Garros this year but has struggled in Turin, now faces the real possibility of elimination from the season-ending event. To stay in the competition, Alcaraz needs an unlikely straight-sets victory from Russian Andrey Rublev, who has lost his last six Finals matches, over Norwegian Casper Ruud.

With Zverev advancing from the John Newcombe Group, three of the four semifinal spots have been secured, with Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz also through from the Ilie Nastase Group.
