Today Marks the Inauguration of the Damietta-Trieste Ferry Line

ANSAmed – DAMIETTA, 28 NOV – This afternoon, the 'Ro-Ro' ferry line for goods transport between the Egyptian port of Damietta, located east of Alexandria, and Trieste, Italy, will be officially inaugurated.

The event will be attended by Italian Ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and Egyptian Minister of Transport and Industry Kamel Al-Wazir.

Launched through a bilateral agreement signed between Italy and Egypt last January, this project will enable the transportation of goods between the two countries in about 60 hours. It will utilize blockchain technology and the digitalization of customs documents to streamline operations, forming part of a broader cooperation between the two countries' customs and central authorities.

The 'Ro-Ro' line aims to boost connectivity between the European, African, and Middle Eastern markets, facilitating trade, especially in fresh, perishable, and frozen agricultural products.

This initiative has received strong backing from both governments, aligning with the Mattei Plan for Africa's strategic partnership. The inauguration will also feature a tour of the 'Tahya Misr 1' container terminal and the port's state-of-the-art cranes.
