Perugia Aims for Third Consecutive Win Against Roma.

After eight straight losses, the team has now secured two consecutive victories and is eager to continue climbing the standings.

Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia's return to the Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà hasn't been easy, as the team endured a rough start, losing their first eight matches in the 2024-2025 season. This marked their reentry into Italy's top volleyball league.

However, Perugia has turned things around in the past two weeks, achieving back-to-back wins. They now have a prime opportunity to continue their ascent in the standings when they face SMI Roma Volley at home on Sunday at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT) in the tenth round of the regular season.

With victories over Honda Olivero Cuneo and Il Bisonte Firenze, Perugia earned six points, bringing their total to eight and pushing them up to 11th place in the standings. They are now just four points shy of the playoff qualification zone and have a great chance to narrow that gap against Roma, who sit at the bottom of the table with only four points and have lost their last eight matches, remaining winless in the Lega Femminile for nearly two months.

“We’re definitely in a positive period after the victories against Cuneo and Firenze, but our approach remains the same as it was at the start of the season,” said Romanian outside hitter Adelina Bud?i-Ungureanu. “I think we've always worked hard, and we need to continue that now. Roma are going through a tough time, but there are no easy matches in the Italian League. We want to keep our winning streak going and count on the support of our fans, who have always been behind us.”

Bud?i-Ungureanu, who scored 15 points against Firenze, was one of Perugia’s key players in that match. Offensively, the team relies heavily on Hungarian opposite Anett Németh, the league's top scorer with 214 points.

Despite their struggles in the Italian League, Roma secured a key victory this week, defeating Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia 3-1 away in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash in the CEV Challenge Cup, giving them a confidence boost heading into their match with Perugia, the first encounter between the teams in the Italian elite.

“This 3-1 victory puts us in a good position for the second leg, and now we can focus on the Italian League,” said Roma's middle blocker Michela Ciarrocchi. “We have a very important match against Perugia, and we can’t wait to get back on the court.”
