Como vs. Juventus: Match Preview, Key Insights, and Predictions

In recent decades, Como has struggled to secure a home victory against Juventus, failing to win any of their last 10 matches at the Sinigaglia Stadium. Their last triumph over the Bianconeri dates back to January 1952 in Serie A. However, following Juventus' 3-0 victory in the first-leg match, Torino’s head coach Thiago Motta remarked:

"You will see, Como will make things difficult for many teams this season. Don’t think that we won easily."

Determined to avoid relegation, Como made significant reinforcements during the winter transfer window. In a surprising move, the club allowed European champion Andrea Belotti to leave on loan. Meanwhile, they secured key signings, including Fiorentina winger Jonathan Ikoné, former Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, Betis forward Assane Diao, and Antwerp goalkeeper Jean Bute. Bute has already established himself as the team's first-choice goalkeeper, pushing Pepe Reina out of the lineup and sending Emil Audero to Serie B.

Como's head coach, Cesc Fàbregas, shared his thoughts on the squad overhaul:

*"I’m relieved that the transfer window is closed. I want to thank the departing players for their commitment—they gave everything for this club and for me as a coach. Now, we focus on competing. Juventus is an incredible club with a rich history, but we step onto the pitch to challenge every opponent. Our goal is to make life difficult for everyone, and we play to win. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but the key is having the mentality to compete at the highest level.

Analyzing Juventus, I see a strong team and a manager with great ideas. I find their approach inspiring, and what Thiago Motta is building is very promising."*

Despite two consecutive defeats, Como has faced top-tier competition—Atalanta and Bologna, both of whom are competing in the Champions League. Now, against Juventus, they face a third consecutive high-level challenge.

Juventus

After back-to-back defeats to Napoli and Benfica in the Champions League, Juventus risked another setback in their home match against Empoli. Former Juventus player Mattia De Sciglio scored early, leaving the Bianconeri struggling to find an equalizer. It wasn’t until the second half that newcomer Randal Kolo Muani scored twice, with Dusan Vlahovic and Francisco Conceição sealing a 4-1 victory.

Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon acknowledged the team's recent struggles:

"Juventus is facing more difficulties than expected, but only those inside the team truly understand the situation."

Thiago Motta, however, remains focused on the upcoming challenge:

*"At times, we haven’t achieved the results we wanted, even when playing well. Now, we face a very tough team with an ambitious coach. Como has already made things difficult for teams like Atalanta, Milan, and Roma.

I’m pleased with our winter signings and that Andrea Cambiaso stayed with us. As for Kolo Muani and Vlahovic playing together—they will, when the time is right."*

Now, Juventus has the opportunity to secure back-to-back league victories for the first time in nearly three months. A win against Como would allow them to overtake Lazio and, at least temporarily, reclaim fourth place in the Serie A standings.
