Rome: “Falchi” Police Unit Arrests 11, Seizes 9 Kg of Drugs and Firearm in Major Crackdown
In a swift and extensive operation spanning the Grande Raccordo Anulare, the city center, and eastern Rome, the “Falchi” (Hawks) of the State Police arrested 11 individuals and seized 9 kilograms of drugs and a modified .22 caliber pistol. The firearm, initially appearing to be a replica, was found fully functional and ready to fire.
The investigation began in Piazza Radio, where officers intercepted a suspicious exchange involving a suitcase containing marijuana. A nearby search revealed an additional 8 kilograms of hashish and marijuana prepared for distribution. Three suspects were arrested, one of whom was also charged with illegal possession of the weapon after further searches in the Balduina district.
Two more individuals were apprehended on the GRA highway following a coordinated operation with the Highway Police. The suspects were caught attempting to flee with stolen car tires and other recently pilfered items. Officers employed the “Safety Car” technique to slow traffic and block their vehicle without alerting them.
The operation also led to the arrests of a 25-year-old Gambian and a 34-year-old Nigerian for attempted extortion involving a stolen phone.
Further efforts in high-drug-activity areas—Pigneto, Tufello, Ponte di Nona, and Pietralata—resulted in four additional arrests and the seizure of over a kilogram of cocaine. All suspects were placed at the disposal of judicial authorities, with their arrests validated by the Prosecutor’s Office and Investigating Judge.
