Nonstop Flight Service Launched Between Denver and Rome

Rome’s iconic Colosseum and world-class cappuccinos are now more accessible to Coloradans with United’s first-ever nonstop flight between Denver and Rome. The new route, which opened this afternoon with a Boeing Dreamliner departing from Gate A27, will operate daily until September 24.

Onboard was Ellie Muncy from Breckenridge, who was drawn to the inaugural flight after seeing a TikTok about the fun events United hosts for such occasions. “I thought, ‘That looks cool,’ so I checked out what inaugural flights United had for the year and saw Rome, and I thought it would be an amazing place to visit,” she said. Muncy is especially excited about the city's architecture, and her family joined her for the journey.

United's Rome flight is a ten-and-a-half-hour trip, and airline spokesperson Russell Carlton noted that seats are nearly sold out for the first week. Bookings overall are on par with other United routes to Rome.

The long-term success of the route will be influenced by politics and economics, especially as European travelers have been hesitant about visiting the U.S. due to policies under the Trump administration. “Airlines usually scale back to hub routes during downturns, which could mean only flights to Frankfurt and Munich for United in Europe,” said transportation journalist Edward Russell.

With the addition of Rome, United now offers 22 international summertime destinations from Denver. Starting in October, the airline will also introduce nonstop flights to Mexico City, Mexico, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

This has been a week of significant expansions for Denver International Airport (DEN), with Lufthansa also bringing the world’s largest passenger aircraft to the airport for seasonal service to Munich.
