Italy Sees No Signs of Imminent Israeli Attack on Iran

ROME, June 12 (Reuters) – Italy has seen no signs suggesting an imminent Israeli attack on Iran, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Thursday.

“I don’t know if there will be an Israeli attack on Iran. We have no indication—other than U.S. actions—that such an attack is imminent,” Tajani told reporters during a joint press conference with German counterpart Johann Wadephul.

On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the relocation of American personnel from the Middle East, warning that the region could become increasingly dangerous. He reaffirmed that the United States would not permit Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

An Italian official familiar with the situation stated that Rome has no plans to scale back staffing at its embassy in Iraq or in other Middle Eastern countries.

Wadephul emphasized Germany’s firm stance against a nuclear-armed Iran. “Everyone wants to avoid escalation. We will not sit back and allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. That must be made clear,” he said alongside Tajani.
