Tusk Sounds Alarm on Russia: Poland Needs to Be Prepared

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has issued a stark warning that Poland must be ready for a potential increase in threats from Russia over the next two years. Speaking during a visit to Pabianice on Saturday, Tusk emphasized that his government would work to stabilize Poland’s security as geopolitical tensions escalate.

The warning came just a day after Tusk met in Warsaw with NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, General Alexus G. Grynkewich. According to Tusk, NATO and U.S. intelligence assessments suggest that both Russia and China may be preparing for a global confrontation as early as 2027.

“Poland and Europe—especially Poland—must be ready for various developments over the next two years,” Tusk said.

In response, Poland is accelerating defense efforts. The government has pledged to boost defense spending and expand military training programs for civilians. Initiatives also include plans to distribute practical guides to help citizens prepare for potential conflict scenarios.

Tusk stressed that the risk extends beyond conventional warfare. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland and neighboring states have faced growing hybrid threats, including cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, and sabotage operations attributed to Russian actors.

Highlighting the ongoing border crisis with Belarus—widely seen as a form of hybrid warfare—Tusk described it as part of a broader strategy by Moscow and Minsk to destabilize the region ahead of potential conflict in 2027.

“This is a historic moment demanding maximum responsibility,” Tusk stated. “We will use the next two years to the fullest to ensure Poland is stable and prepared.”

During his Warsaw visit, General Grynkewich also met with Polish Defense Minister W?adys?aw Kosiniak-Kamysz, who reaffirmed Poland’s strong alliance with the United States and NATO.

Tusk later noted that he had also held conversations with both the outgoing and incoming heads of Britain’s MI6, underscoring a coordinated effort among Western allies to prepare for evolving global threats.

“Poland must be ready. The armed forces must be well equipped. And Poland must remain stable to face any scenario,” the prime minister concluded.
