Hungarian animation to take centre stage in Annecy Animated Film Festival
Hungary Takes Center Stage at Annecy 2025
The 44th Annecy International Animated Film Festival (8–14 June) spotlights Hungary's remarkable animation legacy and its vibrant contemporary scene, showcasing both classic works and bold new voices.

A Legacy That Endures
Festival artistic director Marcel Jean notes: "Despite political changes, Hungarian animation has remained unshakable. The past two decades have seen an exciting new wave emerge through student films, while recent successes like Flóra Anna Buda's Palme d'Or-winning *27*, Balázs Turai's Amok, Nadja Andrasev's Symbiosis, and Áron Gauder's Four Souls of Coyote confirm this renaissance." Thanks to extensive restoration work by the Hungarian National Film Institute, Annecy will present classic Hungarian animations in pristine condition.
Spotlight on New Work
The festival's Official Selection features several Hungarian highlights:
Special Screening: The Quest (Csongor és Tünde) by Máli Csaba and Pálfi Zsolt (Cinemon Entertainment) – A fairy-tale adventure following a prince's magical journey through a world of witches, fairies, and devils.
