Flanders Film Days 2025 - Diverse Flemish Belgian Animation
Animation Takes Center Stage with Diverse Feature Film Lineup

The event spotlights animation with the presentation of three distinct feature films: Black Wolf and Big Bang Parade! are being pitched to potential partners, while Juul offers a first look at its work-in-progress.
Black Wolf: A Silent Epic from Czar
Marking Czar Films' first foray into feature animation, Black Wolf is a dialogue-free project directed by Raf Wathion. The film traces the life of a real, exceptionally resilient black wolf in Yellowstone National Park, from his survivalist prime to his ultimate sacrifice for his pack.
Producer Eurydice Gysel cites Wathion’s short film Little Ox as proof that a compelling, naturalistic narrative is possible without dialogue. Following a successful pitch at Cartoon Movie, the team is now securing international funding and distribution, with production slated for mid-2026.
Big Bang Parade!: A Collaborative Vision
This children's film, pitched by producer Annemie Degryse (Lunanime), brings together seven European female directors. It follows two children who pass the time with six imaginative stories, each helmed by a different director with a unique visual style, all woven into a cohesive narrative by screenwriter Ilka De Bisschop.
Financing is underway with support from the VAF, tax shelter, and Pictanovo. Benelux distribution is secured with Lumiere, and the project is a co-production between Belgium and France.
Juul: A Dark Fantasy Nears Completion
Attendees will get the first glimpse of Tom Van Gestel's Juul, a magical realist drama for a teen-adult audience. The film tells the story of a 17-year-old girl, declared brain dead after a circus accident, who is exhibited as a living puppet by her father. Trapped in her body, her rage manifests as a gradual transformation into porcelain.
After an eight-year development journey, the film is now in full production. Van Gestel’s studio, Fabrique Fantastique, is also developing a Sir Mouse feature film and a live-action project, Crash Test Donny.
