Charleroi Cougars Spoil Yough’s Senior Night with Commanding 4-0 Victory
In a highly anticipated Section 4-2A soccer showdown that capped off a bizarre and unique double-header, the Charleroi Cougars delivered a statement performance. They spoiled Yough’s senior night with a decisive 4-0 victory, simultaneously dashing the home Cougars' hopes for a section title in the process.
The evening at Yough Stadium was anything but ordinary. Before the scheduled match could begin, the two teams first had to complete the final 4 minutes and 14 seconds of a previous encounter from September 11th, which had been suspended due to unruly fan behavior. Yough successfully protected their 1-0 lead from that prior date, officially closing out that abbreviated contest with a win.
However, the narrative shifted entirely in the night's main event. From the opening whistle, Charleroi (12-3, 11-1) looked the hungrier and more composed side, ultimately dominating Yough (10-4, 9-3) in a 4-0 rout that eliminated the home team from section title contention.
Charleroi’s potent attack was on full display. Otis McIntyre opened the scoring in the first half, creating space off a throw-in and firing a left-footed strike that Yough goalkeeper Russell Wieland couldn’t keep out. Wieland was a busy man throughout the night, making several impressive saves to keep Yough in the match early, including denying chances from McIntyre and Dylan Klinger.

Yough had its opportunities to equalize. A headed effort from senior Jayden Goulding sailed just wide, and a sloppy pass from Charleroi’s defense gifted Jake Booher a chance, but his pass to Isaac Pacacha resulted in a shot over the crossbar.
Any hope of a Yough comeback was extinguished in a second-half onslaught from the visitors. About six minutes after the break, Adolph Noel and McIntyre combined to set up Blake Pendo for a tidy finish into the bottom corner, making it 2-0. Pendo then bagged his second goal of the night, pouncing on his own rebound after another stellar initial save from Wieland.
Adolph Noel put the final exclamation point on the victory with just over six minutes to play, dribbling through the box and expertly fitting a left-footed shot inside the far post to seal the 4-0 result.
Charleroi coach Tim Laskey praised his team’s unified effort. “They were hungry, and they played a well-possessed and aggressive game tonight,” Laskey said. “You can rely on (those forwards) every night, but it’s 11 men on the field, and when they work in unison, any one of them can do their part.”
Despite the loss, Yough coach Ron Dushack focused on the positive growth of his program and honored his ten seniors—the first class he has coached for all four years. “This group is awesome,” Dushack said. “They’re a really solid group, and they’re great leaders. It’s been my privilege to coach them.”
Both teams return to action on Thursday, with Charleroi facing Derry and Yough taking on Waynesburg Central.
