Carice van Houten Clarifies Long-Term Split from Guy Pearce, Highlights Co-Parenting Bond
Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten has publicly addressed her relationship status with actor Guy Pearce, revealing the couple have not been together for "years." The 48-year-old actress made the clarification to counter recent media speculation, emphasizing their continued friendship and dedication to co-parenting their son.
Van Houten took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday to share the personal update alongside a smiling photo of the pair. “I don't usually engage in discussions about my personal life,” she wrote, “but because of a number of conclusions in the media last week... I wanted to make something clear.”
“He and I are great friends and love each other very much, but we haven't been a couple for years,” she stated unequivocally. The Dutch actress, however, was keen to highlight the positive nature of their current partnership, which is centred on raising their nine-year-old son, Monte. “I am however, very proud to say we are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives - our beautiful son and his hamster,” she added with a touch of humour.
The couple began dating in 2015, shortly after Pearce’s separation from his wife of 18 years, Kate Mestitz. They welcomed their son Monte the following year. Pearce has previously spoken about how challenging his divorce from Mestitz was, crediting van Houten and their son for helping him through a "very challenging period" in his life.
Rumours of a split between Pearce and van Houten were sparked earlier this month when the Australian actor, in an interview with The Guardian, referred to his ex-wife Mestitz as the "greatest love of my life," before clarifying that his son is now his ultimate priority. Van Houten’s statement now confirms the romantic chapter of their relationship has been closed for some time, reframing their bond as one of friendship and shared parental duty. Pearce has yet to comment publicly on her announcement.
