Izgrev Ensemble to Showcase Authentic Thracian Choreography from Bezmer Village in Munich
The Izgrev folklore ensemble from Warsaw will present a choreography titled Tease on the Square at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling folklore festival, held May 15–17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany.
“We are trying to recreate and preserve the authenticity of our folklore, which is why our choreography is based on original material from the Thracian folklore region, specifically from the vicinity of the village of Bezmer in Yambol Region,” ensemble coordinator Minko Bebevski told BTA.
The Polish-Bulgarian ensemble is dedicated to preserving, presenting, and promoting Bulgarian folk dances and folklore culture in Poland. Its members have been actively engaged in Bulgarian folk dance for years and take part in cultural initiatives aimed at introducing Bulgarian heritage to international audiences.
Bebevski noted that at the invitation of the Bulgarian Embassy and the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Poland, the ensemble will also participate in this year’s 10th My Bulgarian Journey photography competition and the Bulgaria in the Eyes of Poles exhibition, both taking place April 1 in Warsaw.
Izgrev has represented Bulgarian folklore at international festivals in the Czech Republic, Spain, and France. The group is known for its authentic, colorful Thracian folk costumes, cheerful Bulgarian folk music, and a rich variety of traditional dances. “We have recently attracted new sponsors, so for the festival in Munich we will change into new costumes,” Bebevski added.
The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first edition in 2015 and the tenth in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected for the 11th edition in Munich this May. BTA is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants
