The T-junction between Merløsevej and Sorøvej has been converted into a traffic light-controlled intersection. The change is intended to prevent accidents involving left-turning vehicles.
The Danish Road Directorate has completed the reconstruction of the junction, where collisions have occurred several times when cars turning left from Merløsevej have hit traffic on Sorøvej.
Since December last year, the Road Directorate has been rebuilding the intersection, installing traffic lights and a new paving system. The signals make it easier for drivers to turn off Merløsevej when there is heavy traffic on Sorøvej, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.
"The traffic lights have improved traffic control on Sorøvej, making it easier for road users to turn off Merløsevej. We expect this will have a significant positive impact on traffic safety at the junction," says project manager Ditte Bogh Asaa from the Danish Road Directorate.
As part of the reconstruction, it was necessary to close the driveways to the homes closest to the intersection. A new access road has been constructed for the affected properties, allowing residents to enter and exit in a safer manner.
The reconstruction of the T-junction is financed through the rural and urban pool, which is part of the Infrastructure Plan 2035.
